Imari / Arita Ware
Porcelain production in Japan began in the early 17th century in Arita,
following the discovery of kaolin clay.
These wares were shipped from the port of Imari,
giving rise to the name now widely known as “Imari.”
Early Ko-Imari pieces of the Edo period feature bold cobalt blue underglaze,
later enriched with iron red and gold enamels.
Composed yet vibrant,
Imari and Arita porcelain represent a refined technical achievement —
precision balanced with expressive decoration.
