商品説明

A richly decorated Meiji-period Kutani plate, featuring an elegant central scene surrounded by flowers, foliage and highly detailed ornamental patterns.

The central panel depicts a group of elegantly dressed figures within a landscape, framed by dramatic rocky forms and stylised trees. Surrounding panels are decorated with chrysanthemums and other flowering plants, while the deep iron-red ground is embellished with delicate gilt and scrolling motifs.

The decoration is characteristic of the highly elaborate style associated with Meiji-period Kutani, when Japanese ceramics were increasingly produced for a growing international market. The combination of iron-red, gold and fine black detailing creates a particularly rich and theatrical appearance.

The reverse bears the mark 「大日本九谷製」 (Dai Nippon Kutani-sei) — “Made in Japan by Kutani” — a mark associated with Meiji-period Japanese ceramics.

A beautiful example of Meiji Kutani decorative art, showcasing the intricate painting, rich colour and lavish use of gold that made Japanese ceramics so distinctive during this period.
