A beautifully decorated Meiji-period Imari small plate featuring a striking pomegranate (zakuro) motif at the centre, surrounded by floral roundels, geometric lattice patterns and stylised botanical designs.

The rich composition combines cobalt blue, iron-red and green overglaze enamels with abundant gilt decoration. The intricate cross-hatched patterning creates a striking background for the red pomegranate roundels and delicate floral panels.

The central pomegranate is particularly distinctive, echoed by the repeated pomegranate motifs around it. In Japanese decorative arts, the pomegranate is an auspicious motif traditionally associated with fertility, abundance and prosperity.

The decoration is characteristic of the Kinrande-style, a richly ornamented style combining colorful overglaze enamels with generous gilt and intricate patterning.
